BB-631

"He's a BB unit with a selenium drive and a thermal hyperscan vindicator." - Rey

After completing my R6 astromech, my daughter asked me about a life-sized BB-unit, so I decided to jump into it.In late 2012, I began my efforts to build my own R6 astromech - R6J5, also known as ArJay. He will look like the picture above, but will be purple where it is orange. Below, you can follow the build process, just in case you might be interested in building one of your own. All files for the build can be found on the BB-8 builders clum forums forums.

Project begun: November 29, 2017

Each of these pieces took about 8 hours to print, so (not including messups) this first quarter represents about 96 hours of print time.

Needing 4 quarters for the full interior structure, It will be about 384 total print hours for this first ball shape.

Full inner sphere complete.

Starting on the outer shell.

Outer shell triangles done!

For every success, there is...this. Seriously, wtf? I just finished almost 2 weeks of printing the triangles, then start on the inner circles, and come out to this after 2 hours...Yes, I refreshed the tape on the bed. Yes, I cleaned the head prior to this print. Yes, I even unloaded and reloaded the filament. Seriously...wtf!!!

12 half-circle outer panels done!

Getting started on the rings. BB-8 is orange, but mine will be purple.

All body rings are done!
